Let's Talk in English, Studio Classroom and Advanced are three English teaching magazines published monthly in Taipei, Taiwan. The purpose of the magazines is to provide user-friendly materials to help readers improve their English skills while learning about a wide variety of interesting topics. Accompanying radio and television teaching programs are aired Monday through Saturday. The radio programs are also available on MP3 and on the Internet.
Studio Classroom magazine began in 1962 as a single-page lesson sheet accompanying the Studio Classroom radio program. It was an immediate success. Later Let's Talk in English was offered on radio and as a magazine geared specifically for learners desiring to improve English conversation skills. The enthusiastic teaching over the radio coupled with the varied content of the magazines led Studio Classroom and Let's Talk in English to become Taiwan's most popular means of learning English. In 2001, Advanced -- the highest-level English teaching offered -- was launched as a separate magazine. The radio program continued unchanged.
The magazines and radio programs remained the main means of teaching until 1977 when Studio Classroom added television broadcasting and began to produce English television programs including "Globe Theatre," "Around the World in English," "Wonderful Street," "Wonderful Castle," and "Good Morning Today." Studio Classroom began a TV broadcast of its popular radio program in 1997. In 2000, Let's Talk in English went on television in a cooperative venture with Taiwan's Public Television Station (PTS).
* Let's Talk in English is the most popular English-teaching magazine in Taiwan, Shanghai and Beijing. In 2001, it was the only English magazine recommended by Taiwan's Government Information Office (GIO) for teaching English in junior high schools. Today Let's Talk in English remains the best tool for learning everyday English.
* Studio Classroom is the second-most popular English-teaching magazine in Taiwan. The magazine and the accompanying radio and TV programs have won numerous awards over the years, including Taiwan's famous Golden Bell Award. Studio Classroom is distributed and broadcast in China, the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Via the Internet, its programs are available worldwide.
* Advanced is the newest of the magazine group. Most suitable for university students and business professionals, Advanced has articles covering a wide range of topics. Most are reprinted from international magazines providing its readers with a "Window on the World."
Studio Classroom has prepared its English-teaching CD-ROMs for Japanese students since 1996. In 2001, Korean and Albanian versions of Let's Talk in English began. The Korean version of Studio Classroom was launched in 2002.
Knowing that competence in English as a second language is necessary for success in the international arena, it is our goal to continue expanding Studio Classroom's availability worldwide.
